A MASTER SPEAKS
Benjamin Creme
Step by step and stage by stage, humanity is achieving a degree of Oneness. Each day that passes brings some new insight or event which unerlines this process and shows conclusively that the Plan is working out.
The Plan of which I speak embodies the Purpose of the One we call God and focuses His intention for all the kingdoms of Creation. No one can know, in its entirety, the manifold aspects of this Blueprint of Evolution, but the broad outlines, at least, have long been the concern and privileged service of the Spiritual Hierarchy under the leadership of the Christ. With the many aspects of His Plan They daily work, seeking to inspire, through humanity, its gradual fulfilment.
The time has come for humanity to enter more deeply into a knowledge of the Plan and thus, in full consciousness, to evolve according to the Will of God. Where man's will and God's Will coincide, all proceeds normally and well. Where this congruence is absent man is afflicted by all manner of ills, each of his own engendering. Thus it truly can be said that man creates his own destiny; his halters and fears are his own, his suffering self-made.
Today, the Plan unfolds at an unprecedented rate. Miracles of change are occurring on a global scale, confounding the hopes of those who would for ever enthral the peoples, and keep them submissive to a nefarious foe. New energies saturate the world, awakening man to new possibilities and relationships. New teachings and teachers present themselves to men, each in his own way illuminating a strand of the complex pattern of the Plan.
Thus does the Plan proceed through mutation and change, bringin all gradually to the envisioned goal. Wherever men turn their eyes today they can witness this happening; a paroxysm of change engulfs the world.
The task of the watching Brotherhood is to oversee these changes and contain them lawfully within the confines of the Plan. Thus do the Masters work, relating the Plan to the possibilities presented by men.
Each step towards synthesis taken by men gives opportunity for furthers unfoldment under law. Thus do men, themselves, control the progress of the Plan.
Entering our life today are forces altogether new, heralding a civilization based on Brotherhood and Love. These forces likewise herald the re-entry of the Christ into the midst of men, accepting the challenge as Teacher for the new time. Working in full knowledge of the Plan, His task is to take humanity in the direction of its ordained destiny: the fulfilment of the Will of God for the perfection of all men.
Thus today does the Christ work to accomplish His task as the Great Mediator, the Representative and Knower of God.

Present-day political structures are of three main types, reflecting, however inmperfectly, three separate aspects of the Divine intention. To these three forms we give the names of Democracy, Communism and Facism. However distortedly, each embodies a divine idea; however corruptly, each is the expression of a divine energy, and each is related to a major planetary centre.
That which we call Democracy is a reflection, albeit inadequate today, of the love nature of God, exemplified by the Spiritual Hierarchy, the centre wherre the Love is God is expressed. That to which we give the name Communism is an expression, as yet imperfect, of the Intelligence of God, centred in humanity itself; while Facism, today in a totally distorted manner, reflects the energy of Will from Shamballa, the centre where the Will of God is known.
Each of these three forms of organization and relationship is in a state of transition, more or less, and in their gradual transformation into fuller expression of the divine idea behind them lies the hope of future peaceful co-operation.
Each of the forms . . . .

Of all the problems which beset humanity there is none greater than the problem of glamour. It provides the basis for all our difficulties and dangers, and holds the vast majority of humanity in thrall. It is at the root of every division and cleavage and the source of every dimension of pain and suffering. It has its roots in the ancient past of mankind and all but a very few are held under its sway.
Essentially, glamour originates in man's sensuous, feeling apparatus - the emotional or astral body - and in man's identification with its action. Through wrong identification with his feelings and emotions - his desire nature - he has surrounded himself with, and lost himself in, thick fogs of illusion and unreality. This constitutes the glamour in which most people live out thier lives. Glamour is illusion on the plane of the emotions and provides the greatest obstacle to progress, for the individual and for the race. It throws a multitude of misconceptions across the path of the unwary, and the loftiest idealist is no freer from its influence (nay, he is frequently more prone) than the hardenend cynic.
To come to grips with glamour, humanity must recognize its mechanism, by which means the central heresy - that we are separate - is created and maintained. All that tends to reinforce the sense of separateness is the result of the action of glamour, and all that seeks to undermine that heresy works for its destruction. Glamour resides in the notion that man's desires are real, that they have their own intrinsic validity and purpose, whereas, in truth, they are the cause of all unhappiness; no more real, no less transient, than the mirage of the dessert.
The well-meaning aspirant clouds his action with desire for achievement; the idealist looks upn his as the only possible ideal that right-thinking peopele could hold; often do we see the absurdities of national pride lead nations into actions against the interest of their peoples. These, the actions of glamour, are the product of desire; for power and fulfilment of ambition. The light of science had rid the world of certain ancient glamours but created others in their stead: the glamour of possessions enthtralls half the world while the other half go hungry and die in misery and want.
Eventually, humanity will work through this phase and establish a truer perception of reality. The myriad glamours which beset the race today will one day dissolve in the light of man's soul, invoked into manifestation as the New Age proceeds. But the present is a time in which new types of energy are making their impact of men's lives and creating conditions of bewilderment and confusion. The heightened tension of the time fosters the glamour fear and destruction, erupting into violence of all kinds.
What can be done to free humanity from this ancient thralldom, in part innate in the nature of substance itself? How can man free himself from wrong identification and the tyranny of his self-created thoughtforms? The answer lies in a shift of focus, from the self to the group; in a truer identification with the soul and its relation to all souls. The light of the soul, through the agency of mind, is the great dissipator of glamour, and long ago the Buddha taught the conquering of desire: the Noble Middle Path between the pairs of opposites. In the light of the soul the essential unity is seen, the astral waves subside and the aspirant finds himself at initiation's gate.

GLAMOUR
The family unit is the basis of all social life. Its importance cannot be over-emphasized. Today, this pre-eminence is being eroded by neglect, experiment and a misunderstaning of the essential needs of children.
All children need a stable background is which to grow and the exemplars of that process, a mother and father. That not all parents provide that stability or offer worth examples is, sadly, all too true, and many factors are involved in this unfortunate condition: lack of education, poverty, inadequate housing, illness, and irresponsible and feckless adults, immature and unfit for the rigours of family life.
Let it also be said that millions in every country, poverty-stricken and deprived of every amenity, strive valiantly, and together and provide a stable and loving example to their young. They are the unsung heroes of the race who, through tenacity of purpose and endless self-sacrifice, represent the best that humanity can show.
The new education must adress this fundamental problem and institute the training and requirements for family life. It is odd, it it not, that this most basic aspect of social life should receive such scant attention, and be left to the vagaries of chance to such a large extent?
In most countries, the right to drive a car is regulated and controlled by age and tests, more or less severe. Doctors and nurses, pilots and drivevers of trains, all of them, may carry out their useful service only after due training and careful preperation. And rightly so. Yet millions of young people are allowed to enter this field of service - the most difficult in the world - for the most part devoid of training of any kind. The simple biological urge to reproduce, and the domination of the woman's 'time-clock', are considered sufficient to grant the right to multiply and add to a congested world.

In seeking insights into the direction which education in the New Age might take it will prove useful to establish the basic purpose which education serves and so throw light on the inadequacies of present educational approaches.
Firstly, it must be understood for whom educations exists and the process by which it carries out its function. This may be less obvious than at first sight may seem to be the case, for man has long been ignorant of his true nature and constitution, taking the part for the whole, and ignoring, to a large extent, his essential being.
Man, as a soul in incarnation, is an emerging God, and, through the Law of Rebirth, is advancing slowly to the demonstration, in full slendour, of that divinity. Education, in its true sense, is the means by which an individual, through a gradual expansion of concious awareness, is fitted and fits himself for that goal. All that aids this process is education, however formal or informal the method might be.
In today's sense, education is a feeble thing indeed, ensuring only the minimum requirements for and understanding and control of man's environment. Few there are who learn more than the rudiments of life's meaning and purpose, caught up, as most people are , in the daily struggle for existence.
Whole nations, today, are all but illiterate still. Elsewhere, facts-full minds stand idle for lack of meaningful work. Education for jobs has replaced education for life while, more and more, the stresses and strains of such imbalance erupt violence of all kinds.
Education should be understood as the means by which the indwelling God is contacted, known and given expression. Traditionally, religion has been seen to serve this purpose and religious education remains a bulwark in many countries today,
However, religion is but one of many paths to God, and ways must be found which allow all men to know and to express their experience of divinity.
To this end the new education should address itself. The fact of the soul, the Divine Intermediary, must gain general acceptance, and techniques of contact with this higher principle attain common usage.
When the ray structure, evolutionary development and purposes of the soul are known and documented, a more scientific approach can be made to the education of both children and adults, and a new meaning given to the process by which men learn to become Gods.
All of this awaits the earnest endeavours of those working in the educational field. Fitment for such tasks should be the aim of all aspiring to teach the young. Never has a better opportunity for service presented itself to those ready for the challenges of education for life in the New Age which now opens before us all. A new vista of possibilities will soon appear as men grapple with the problems of separation and division. This will release the forces and inspire techniques of training and teaching which will bring men in due course to the feet of God.

The purpose of Hierarchy is to implement the Plan of God. In this endeavour, They utilize all means open to Them. Among the many procedures of which They make use, that known as Initation is the most important. It takes precedence over all other measures, and contains within it the requirements for all progress on this planet. Each initation confers on the initiate a deeper understanding of the meaning and purpose behind God's Plan, a fuller awareness of his part within that Plan, and an increasing ability to work consciously and intelligently towards its fulfilment. There is no process on this Earth that can take a man so swiftly and so surely to the mountain top of Liberation.

Everywhere today, are to be found groups whose main concern is to further the idea of healthy living and to foster the interest of the public in achieving greater vitality and freedom from disease. On all sides, books are appearing offering dietary and other regimes - some new and unproved, others based on ancient lore - which claim to cure all bodily ills from overweight to the deadliest scourges to which humanity is prone. A new impetus has been given to research into the causes and nature of disease and to its prevention and cure.
As yet, the true cause of disease is quite unknown. Buried deep in man's past, it is largely karmic, and is transmitted by heredity. In this karma, all of humanity shares. Ancient transgressions of the Laws of Life have left this unwelcome heritage and only a profound reconstruction of our ways of thinking and living will transform this situation and, gradually, bring balance. That such balance will come is inevitable; but it will take time to eridicate certain age-old dideases and to cleanse the soil of the planet itself. In particular, the traditional forms of burial, widespread today, must give way to cremation, the only sanitary method of disposal of the body after death.
Everywhere, now are to be found enclaves of reasearch into the newer healing methods; much experimentation is proceeding along reasonably correct lines and the doors of knwowlegd are opening one by one. Soon, a flood of new insights will sweep the world, leading to an entirely new approach to disease and its cause and treatment.
Behind all of this activity stands Hierarchy, watching and guiding from behind the scenes of life, seeking, wherever possible, to stimulate research and experiment. This stimulus flows along two main lines: to galvinize far-seeing men into exploration of man's constitution and structure, on the knowledge of which an understanding of the mechanism of disease depends; and to stimulate the various means, curative, ameliorative and preventive, old adn new, orthodox and unorthodox, which seek to control disease today.
One of the outstanding happenings of the present time has been the rise into prominence of so-called spiritual or faith healers of various kinds. There has been marked a shift in public acceptance of their role and gifts and this on a wordwide scale. A new interest in the ancient healing methods of the East has widened the technical resources and understanding of Western practitioners, while prevention of disease - the creation of conditions of health and vitality - is gradually gaining a major role.
All of this portends well for the future, a future in which we shall see the gradual conquering of the ills which so beset mankind. The first step will be to eridicate the fear of disease and, from an understanding of its cause, inculcate a more correct approach to its control.

The transformation of social structures of social structures will do much to improve the health of humanity, removing much of the chronic stress and anxiety which is the experience of millions today. Greater leisure and recreation will play their part while sounder agricultural methods will ensure the production of food whose vitality is adequate to man's needs.
When mankind realizes the true nature o its constitution - as a soul reflecting itself through mental, emotional and twofolf physical (ehteric and dense) bodies, the first step in the conquering of disease will be taken. Until now, man's attention has been focussed on the dense-physical plane while the causes of disease are to be found in de misappropriation of the energies flowing through the subtler bodies.
Man is on the verge of a great discovery: that disease is the result of imbalance; that correct balance is maintained by correct thought and action and that such correct thought and action involves his brothers and sisters everywhere. If man would end disease he must first end separation.

Every few years, a further advance is made in the understanding and control of disease, as we call that state of disequilibrium of mind and body which so troubles mankind. Each new advance pushes back a little the limits of man's knowledge of himself, and opens the door to futhers illumination. As we stand on the threshold of a new era, humanity is poised, as never before, to receive new light. Quickened by the stimulus of the Christ and His Masters, man is ready to discover the truths of his existence which, eventually, will free him totally of disease.
The first step in the eradication of any disease must be an understanding of its cause. Hitherto, the cause of most disease has eluded man's search, so ignorant has he been of the nature of his constitution and the laws under which he functions. From now on, as man proceeds along a more correct course and grasps the neccessity of right relationship, this will begin to remedied. Disease is ultimately the result of wrong relationship: to our higher self, the soul; to our brothers and sisters troughout the world; and to the Whole of which we are a part. by the misuse of soul energy we set in motion the causation. By wrong relationship to our fellows we bring about disequilibrium and disharmony, and illness of all kinds. Through our sense of seperation we cut ourselves off from the healing potencies which everywhere surround us.
A mighty task awaits humanity at this turning-point in its life: to cleanse the world of the age-old habits of wrong thinking and living; to change entirely its manner of social living in such a way as to make possible a new freedom from fear: fear of want, of war, of disease and death. An enormous task, indeed, but one worth all the effort involved, for it will lead to a new livingness, a new and sweeter relationship between men, and to a world governed by the principles of justice and brotherhood, sharing and love. What finer goal could there be for humanity than to create such a world? No one can gainsay the benefits that such a transformation would bring, and We, the Masters, will help you in your task, revealing to you the best paths and possibilities.
Science, today, stands poised to contribute its share to the conquering of disease. The etheric planes of matter await man's exploration and study. Therein will be found the origin of that disequilibrium of forces which manifests itself as the body's ills. The treatment of disease will take on a new dimension when the function of the force centres (chakras) as receivers and dispensers of energy is understood and when their connection with the major glands of the endocrine system is known. Already, of course, there are those few practitioners who know this and who do valuable work, but not until this knowledge is general shall we see much advance in the understanding of the mechanism of disease.
It will not be long until this research into etheric fields begins in earnest. When it does it will transform the therapeutic situation. The New Psychology, the coming Science of the Soul, will throw much light on the nature and cause of disease and point the way to its prevention. In time, man will learn to approach and work with the deva (or angelic) evolution, many aspects of which are deeply engaged in the healing process.
Thus, stage by stage, disease will be eradicated from the world, to be replaced by a vitality and well-being seldom seen today but which is man's birthright, did he but know it. The stage is being set for this transformation. The Masters, on Their return, will point the way, and under Their wise guidance all shall be made new.
