LET THE PLAN OF LIGHT AND LOVE
WORK OUT

The devas are a crucial part of the creative process. Far from folkloric nature spirits, devas (Sanskrit for “shining ones” or “radiant beings”) are conscious entities who govern the form aspect of the universe. They represent the polar opposite of human evolution, which focuses on consciousness. The deva hierarchy exists on cosmic, planetary, and etheric levels.

THE DEVA HIERARCHY

DEVA KINGDOM

  • Ray 3: Active Intelligence or Adaptation.
  • Daughters of Feeling
  • 300 billion monads
  • Polar opposite of humanity
  • Sound, colour, form

3 MAJOR EVOLUTIONARY LINES

Three great evolutionary paths:
  1. Human evolution – focused on the development of self-awareness and group consciousness.
  2. Deva or angelic evolution – concerned with the intelligent manipulation of matter and energy.
  3. Divine or monadic evolution – a cosmic path followed by some monads beyond full realization.

GENERAL STRUCTURE OF THE DEVA HIERARCHY

The deva's can be divided into three broad classes:

1.  Higher Devas (Arupa – formless levels)
Active on the three highest planes (atma,
    buddhi, manas)
  • Great cosmic devas (e.g., the Lipikas – Lords of Karma)
  • Builders of planetary forms
  • Guardians of karmic law
  • Work closely with the Lord of the World (Sanat Kumara)

2.  Middle Devas (Manasic - mental builders)
    Function on the mental plane:
  • Elemental devas of thought-forms
  • Builders of mental bodies
  • They collaborate with human thought processes
  • Shape the fabric of the mental world

3. Lower Devas (Rupa – form-based)
Active on astral and physical planes:
  • Elemental builders of matter (fire, air, water, earth)
  • Nature spirits (e.g., sylphs, salamanders, undines, gnomes—in esoteric, not folkloric, sense)
  • Etheric devas governing physical form
  • Maintain the physical body and planetary structures

SPECIFIC ORDERS OR CLASSES
OF DEVAS

1.  The Lipikas (Lords of the Cosmic Record)
  • They inscribe karmic law
  • Stand above the Creative Trinity
  • Custodians of cosmic memory

2.  The 4 Maharajas
  • Great devas of karmic balance
  • Lords of the four elements
  • Guardians of the 4 cardinal directions

3.  Agni-Devas
  • Lords of fire (inner fire, kundalini)
  • Aid in the transformation of the lower nature

4.  Devas of the 7 Rays
  • Each Ray has its own deva hierarchy
  • Channels of energy for the manifestation of divine qualities

5. Solar Devas
  • Each Ray has its own deva hierarchyRe
  • Related to the Solar Angels (Solar Pitris)

6. Lunar Pitris (Moon Fathers)
  • Builders of the physical, astral, and lower mental bodies
  • Key agents in early human evolution
  • Responsible for sustaining form

  • Humans unconsciously work with devas whenever they think, feel, or build forms.
  • In White Magic, the disciple learns to consciously cooperate with building devas through meditation, visualization, and focused intent.
  • Adepts and Masters consciously direct devas in magical work, healing, group formation, and planetary service.

DEVA-HUMAN COOPERATION

  • A Treatise on Cosmic Fire (especially Part II: “Deva Evolution”)
  • A Treatise on White Magic (notably Rules XII–XIV)
  • Initiation, Human and Solar (on higher beings and angels)
  • Esoteric Psychology I & II (for the rays and their associated deva qualities)

PRIMARY SOURCES IN ALICE BAILEY'S WORK

Devas are deeply connected to colour, as colour is a manifestation of vibration, ray energy, and form-building force.
For devastheir colours are based on:

  • Ray affiliation (1st to 7th Ray)
  • Plane of existence (etheric, astral, mental, etc.)
  • Function (e.g. building, destroying, healing)
  • Consciousness level (low elemental to great solar deva)

Here is an overview of the colours associated with different deva types:

1. Devas of the Rays

2. Devas by plane or elements

  • Solar Angels (Solar Pitris)
Often seen as shimmering gold, blue, or white, depending on the ray and stage of development. They are radiant and often surrounded by aura-like halos of rainbow hues.
  • Lipika Lords
Associated with the white fire of karma—colorless yet containing all colours.
  • Agni-Devas (Fire Lords)
Radiate intense flame colors—electric blue, golden-red, and white heat. They are associated with the inner fires (kundalini, spiritual fire).

3. Great Solar and Cosmic Devas

HOW THIS APPLIES TO MEDITATION AND MAGIC

When working in occult meditation, one may invoke devas through coloUr (e.g., visualizing violet for ceremonial work).

In white magic, the disciple is taught to use colour, sound, and form to attract or direct devas for building thoughtforms.

Certain colour vibrations attract devas of similar resonance. For example, deep indigo may attract high-order second-ray devas.
