The Plan

1. Threefold Evolution

Bailey (following Theosophy) teaches that evolution is triple:

Physical evolution: The development of form and the refinement of the physical, emotional, and mental vehicles. This is what science mainly studies.

Consciousness evolution: The awakening of awareness, sensitivity, and intelligence within these forms, leading eventually to spiritual self-consciousness.

Spiritual evolution: The unfolding of the soul’s purpose, the alignment of personality with soul, and the progressive revelation of the divine Plan.

2. Humanity’s Role

Humanity is seen as a bridge kingdom between the animal and the divine, tasked with mediating between lower and higher forms of life.

Evolution in humanity is not only biological but involves initiation—stages of expansion in consciousness, culminating in liberation from the human kingdom into higher spiritual kingdoms.

3. The Goal of Evolution

The purpose is not perfection of form but the expression of spirit through form.

Each kingdom of nature (mineral, plant, animal, human, and beyond) evolves toward the full expression of the divine Life within it.

For humanity, the evolutionary goal is to become a conscious cooperator with the divine Plan, a soul-infused being who serves the greater whole.

4. Cosmic Perspective

Evolution is not limited to Earth. Bailey describes it as part of a vast cosmic process involving planetary Logoi, solar Logoi, and even greater Beings.

Human evolution is a tiny fragment of the evolutionary path of the Planetary Logos (the indwelling Life of our Earth).

5. Method of Evolution

Evolution proceeds through the Law of Rebirth (reincarnation), the Law of Cause and Effect (karma), and the urge-to-progress which is inherent in all life.

Crises, challenges, and conflicts are viewed as natural stages of growth, leading to higher synthesis.

6. Esoteric Evolution vs. Exoteric Evolution

Modern science studies the outer side of evolution (forms, species, genetics).

Esoteric teaching adds the inner side: the soul’s influence, the divine energy that presses outward through matter, shaping forms suitable for higher consciousness.
