NEW POLITICS

SERVING THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE

The coming transformation of politics and world governance and the principles and evolutionary directions through which a new political order will gradually manifest as humanity matures.

1. The Present Crisis in Politics

Bailey wrote mostly between the 1920s–1940s, during world wars and rising totalitarianism. She saw the political arena as the most distorted and materialized of the three great fields of human organization (politics, religion, economics).
  • Current systems (democracy, fascism, communism) were seen as temporary experiments—each carrying seeds of truth but also distortions.
  • Political conflict reflects the battle between self-interest vs. the common good, or “separativeness vs. synthesis.”
  • Nations, like individuals, are “souls in incarnation,” each learning its lessons through conflict and cooperation.

2. The Guiding Principle: Right Human Relations

The cornerstone of the new political order is what she calls Right Human Relations—the recognition of humanity as one family.
  • Governments must move away from rule by force, propaganda, and privilege toward representation, shared responsibility, and service to the whole.
  • Politics must increasingly be based on ethics, goodwill, and enlightened public opinion rather than power struggles.
  • “Goodwill” is the political expression of love, and she describes it as the energy that can rebuild civilization.

3. The Role of the United Nations

2. The Guiding Principle: Right Human Relations

Bailey foresaw the UN (founded in 1945, shortly before her death) as an embryonic form of future world governance.
  • Not perfect, but a step toward cooperation, arbitration, and global problem-solving.
  • Not perfect, but a step toward cooperation, arbitration, and global problem-solving.
  • Over time, she predicts, the UN (or its successor) will house a “world parliament” and a court of justice that handles international disputes.

4. The Three Great Systems & Their Synthesis

Bailey analyzes the three major ideologies of her time:
  • Democracy – affirms human liberty and participation, but is immature and chaotic.
  • Communism – emphasizes sharing and equality, but misused under authoritarian regimes.
  • Fascism/Autocracy – stresses order, discipline, and leadership, but corrupted by dominance.
She says the new political system will be a synthesis, keeping the truth of each while discarding distortions:
  • The liberty of democracy,
  • The sharing of communism,
  • The leadership & coordination of hierarchical order.
  • This synthesis is not imposed but emerges as human consciousness evolves.

5. Nations as Soul-Expressions

In The Destiny of the Nations, she describes nations as having both soul purposes and personality distortions.
  • Future politics will focus less on nationalism and more on each nation’s unique contribution to the whole.
  • Nations are not meant to dominate each other but to specialize in service (e.g., the U.S. as laboratory of synthesis, Britain as organizer, France as illuminator, etc.).

6. The Role of Leaders and Citizens

  • True political leaders of the future will be those who embody vision, selflessness, and inclusiveness.
  • The masses will no longer be manipulated by propaganda, but will be educated into responsibility, critical thinking, and cooperation.
  • Bailey emphasizes the power of public opinion—informed, enlightened opinion will gradually become the most potent force shaping governance.

7. Stages of Transition

Bailey foresees a long transitional process:
  1. Crisis & Breakdown of old selfish systems (wars, corruption, inequality).
  2. Experimentation & Conflict between ideologies.
  3. Emergence of Cooperation—international law, shared resources, respect for minorities, women’s full equality.
  4. The Externalisation of the Hierarchy—the presence of spiritually advanced teachers and disciples influencing world affairs more openly.

8. The Future World Order

The political order of the New Age (Age of Aquarius) will be marked by:
  • A federation of nations cooperating without loss of sovereignty.
  • A world legislature reflecting humanity’s will.
  • A world legislature reflecting humanity’s will.
  • A world judiciary enforcing international law and preventing war.
  • A world executive coordinating resources and addressing planetary crises.
  • Emphasis on service, unity in diversity, and group responsibility.

9. The Spiritual Dimension

Politics is not separate from spirituality—it is one of the fields of discipleship.
  • Disciples and aspirants are urged to engage in politics not to dominate, but to infuse it with light, love, and will-to-good.
  • The ultimate goal is to align human governance with the Plan of the Hierarchy, which seeks the “full expression of the Kingdom of God on Earth.”

Alice Bailey’s vision of the new political system is not a single structure but an evolutionary movement toward planetary democracy and cooperation, rooted in right human relations, goodwill, enlightened leadership, and the recognition of humanity as one family. It retains the truths of past systems but transcends their distortions. The future is a world federation of nations, guided by ethics, justice, and spiritual vision.
