DISCIPLESHIP IN THE NEW AGE
- The New Group of World Servers emerged as a definite subjective group in 1925, following a decision within the planetary Hierarchy to make closer contact with humanity. This period marked the beginning of a new phase in the externalisation of hierarchical work, with the NGWS as its chosen instrument.
- They arose as an answer to humanity’s aspiration for justice and peace after the upheavals of the First World War. Instead of creating a formal “occult” group, the Hierarchy impressed upon the world the idea of a decentralized, non-sectarian band of servers—men and women in every country, of every religion and ideology, united not by outer organization but by an inner alignment to human welfare and the divine Plan.
1. Historical Emergence
- The NGWS is sometimes called the “heart and head” of humanity in embryonic form.
- It consists of people who are:
• Sensitive to impression from the inner
spiritual government of the planet (the
Hierarchy).
• Motivated by service, not ambition or
personal gain.
• Dispersed throughout the world in all walks
of life—politics, education, science, religion,
the arts, social service, and economics. - It is neither a mystical nor an occult society in the outer sense. Instead, it is an organism of consciousness, a living “subjective network” that binds together all who share the impulse of goodwill and the urge to serve humanity’s future.
2. Identity and Nature of the Group
- The NGWS is situated within a threefold chain of relationship:
- The Spiritual Hierarchy
• The Masters of Wisdom and Their Ashrams.
• The custodians of the divine Plan. - The New Group of World Servers
• The mediating body.
• Receives impression from the Hierarchy and
seeks to anchor it in human affairs. - Humanity at Large
• The general mass of people, moving
gradually toward greater awareness.
• Especially those who can respond to the
idea of goodwill.
- Thus, the NGWS is the “bridge”: it translates
divine intention into human thoughtforms,
ideas, values, and institutions.
3. Its Place in the Planetary Structure
- Telepathic Network: Bailey describes the NGWS as a “sensitive network of minds,” linked by telepathic rapport. Members can be impressed by ideas simultaneously, even without meeting.
- Anchor for Hierarchical Energy: Spiritual forces (Light, Love, and Will) can be stepped down through the NGWS into humanity.
- Distributor of the Three Spiritual Festivals: Especially at the times of Aries, Taurus, and Gemini full moons (Easter, Wesak, and the Festival of Humanity/Goodwill), the NGWS aligns with the Hierarchy in meditation and invocation.
4. Esoteric Functioning
There are two broad categories:
1. Conscious Members
- Disciples and aspirants aware of the Plan and the existence of the Hierarchy.
- They cooperate deliberately with impression and seek alignment through meditation.
2. Unconscious Members
- Men and women of goodwill in every land who may never have heard of the Hierarchy or esotericism.
- They belong by virtue of their attitude, motive, and service.
Importantly, no formal initiation, registration, or recognition is required. The only criterion is service.
5. Membership: Who Belongs?
- Every seven years, the NGWS undergoes a cycle of intensified activity and alignment.
- This is known as the Festival Week of the NGWS, when the Hierarchy directs an outpouring of spiritual energy to strengthen its work.
- These seven-year cycles are points of re-dedication, testing, and renewal.
- Years: 1935, 1942, 1949, 1956, 1963, 1970, 1977, 1984, 1991, 1998, 2005, 2012, 2019, 2026, 2033, 2040, 2047, 2054, 2061, 2068, 2075, 2082 etc.
