ELEMENTS

1.  DEFINITION

A community is a social unit (a group of people) with a shared socially-significant characteristic, such as place, set of norms, culture, religion, values, customs, or identity. Communities may share a sense of place situated in a given geographical area (e.g. a country, village, town, or neighborhood) or in virtual space through communication platforms. Durable good relations that extend beyond immediate genealogical ties also define a sense of community, important to people's identity, practice, and roles in social institutions such as family, home, work, government, TV network, society, or humanity at large. Although communities are usually small relative to personal social ties, "community" may also refer to large-group affiliations such as national communities, international communities, and virtual communities.
In terms of sociological categories, a community can seem like a sub-set of a social collectivity. In developmental views, a community can emerge out of a collectivity.
Human communities may have intent, belief, resources, preferences, needs, and risks in common, affecting the identity of the participants and their degree of cohesiveness.

A new approach to social living

An entirely new possibility of social relationship opens up for humanity. As man stands on the threshold of the Aquarian experience, altogether new levels of awareness will manifest themselves in this coming time. This will lead to the creation of new forms through which man can express his growing sense of the interrelatedness of all things.

At first, these new structures will be slow to form as man carefully finds his way out of the present morass; but, gradually, a fresh impetus to change will be given by the Masters forming the first group of the externalizing Hierarchy. New ideas ill sweep across the world, relating men to each other in a new way, and a new approach so social living will begin.

Here it is necessary to digress for a moment to underline the inadequacy of the present social structures, now fast decaying. Today, large number of people live deeply unfulfilled lives, dedicated only to ‘earning a living’, contributing little of a truly creative nature to the general fund of knowledge and experience. Through no fault of their own they remain passive onlookers of a life which passes them by. Bereft of any real joy and meaning in their lives, they await in growing resentment their day of revenge. This constitutes a major world problem. On all sides today can be seen bafflement, confusion and anger.

Into the midst of this confusion has come the Christ. His is the task to point the way into new structures which will allow man’s growing sense of himself as a divine being to be expressed. Only the Masters and the Christ Himself know the enormity of His task. Nevertheless, We await, with confidence, humanity’s response.

To begin with, massive aid for the poorer areas of the world must be given the highest priority to alleviate the suffering of many millions. The redistribution of the world’s resources according to need should then proceed until a more equitable balance is achieved. This will take two to three years to implement. Concurrently, a far-reaching programme of education must be inaugurated to deal with the growing problems of unemployment and the ever-increasing demands for a correct and more creative use of leisure. A gradual restructuring of society will take place with the minimum of cleavage; men’s hope of a society based on sharing and love will gradually be fulfilled, and the ne era will guarantee to each his rightful place.

These new forms will lead to the expression of as yet dimly sensed attributes in man. The awakening of powers of perception and reception hitherto unrealized will quicken his understanding of the spiritual basis of life, and more and more, in mounting rhythm, his inner divinity will become manifest. His social forms will mirror his sense of the interconnectedness of all creation and will lead to the establishment of correct relationship to all the kingdoms. Once again, man will realize the sacredness of all life and will take the necessary steps to protect that life from harm. A creative interchange between all groups will flow and will ensure a steady realization of man’s human – and divine – potential.

Freed by machines from the burden of unnecessary work, millions will find within themselves a creativity absent until now, and will contribute their share to the glowing tapestry of joyful living which become the hallmark of the New Age.

A NEW APPROACH TO SOCIAL LIVING

Within months from now a new era will have begun. Almost imperceptibility, over the last few years, great changes have been taking place in the world which herald a new dawn, a gradual transformation of society and its structure on a scale hitherto uknown. Soon, the first outlines of the new structures will be seen. Before long, there will be set in place the initial groundplan on which the new civilization will be built.

All this depends on the acceptance by humanity of the principle of sharing and justice, brotherhood and love. Without such acceptance naught can save this  world. For this reason, Maitreya has named these principles as the foundation of all progress for man. When you see Him, He will call for the implementation of these basic and divine concepts so that all men may live in harmony and justice for the first time. Soon, men will see that there is no alternative to sharing, that all else has failed, and with united voice will call for the restructuring of the world along more just lines. Thus will it be.

Initially, of course, there will be those who will resist the changes for which this transformation calls, seeking to cling to their ancient privileges and power. Not all men are at the same point of readiness for change. But, as the need for change becomes more and more self-evident. they will find it increasingly difficult to influence events and, in gathering momentum, all will be remade.

It will take time to reorganize, totally, all world structures, but a start can soon be made, a foothold in the New won, and a significant step taken in the new direction in which humanity must go.

Clearly, many hands will be needed in the creation of the new society. Many are the tasks to be performed. Many are the adjustments which must be made. All who wish to serve will hear the call to service ringing in their hearts and from the heart will they respond. The united voice of the people of all lands calling for justice and sharing will set up an invocation which nothing can resist. Thus will the world be transformed. Thus, gradually, will the new forms be created, the new relationships forged, a new and happier era dawn for humanity under the guidance of the Christ and the Masters.

Today, as never before, to those who would travel more quickly along the evolutionary path is proffered an unique oppurtunity to serve and grow. Taking upon themselves the task of transformation and thus serving the Plan and the world, they can set new standards by which spiritual progress is measured and speed the process for humanity as a whole. This is the challenge of this time. Disciples today have the opportunity to quicken the evolutionary process for all those who will follow, thus serving the Plan of the Logos in a most potent fashion. Serve and grow. Serve and grow. That is the key to progress on the path

A NEW ERA DAWNS

At the beginning of this New Age which is dawning it is difficult for many to imagine the kind of civilization and culture which will grace the succeeding centuries. Most attempts to do so remain enmeshed in a materialistic vision; seldom does one see the effort made to embody the aspiration of mankind for a life of spiritual meaning and expression.

Let us try to envisage the future in terms of the new civilization and culture.   ...

THE NEW CIVILIZATION

Poised as man is on the threshold of the New Age, it is essential to give some thought to the forms into which the present inadequate structures should grow. To ensure that the changes proceed in the desired direction of greater social justice and eventually brotherhood, we could do well to look closely at the means whereby these conditions may be achieved.

It is obvious that the present structures no longer serve man's need for peace and co-operation on a national or international level; the opposite holds true. Were man to continue in the present mode, annihilation would be inevitable. Fortunately, there are those who see this and work for change.

Structures are required which, at the same time, give the greatest freedom and tolerance to inidividual the right to exploit his brothers. While preserving the enterprising spirit of the talented individual, they must also ensure the rights of the community as a whole.

Structures must be sought which take advantage of man's natural desire to participate in all that affects his life. This will make for greater social cohesion and sense of shared responsibility. The present political party systems are clearly inadequately to provide for this participation and must give way to other forms of representation. This holds as true for the Democratice West as for the Communistic East.

Envisage a process whereby, more and more, each man or woman becomes engaged in the making of decisions on the level of community affair.
